Kung Fu Panda is truley a wise sage!
Living mindfully is more than just practicing mindfulness meditations.
It's a commitment to living with total awareness and curiosity, allowing our whole body and all our sense to see, feel, hear and experience the world around us. It invites us to slow down, and participate in the life we are creating.
Mindfulness is the core-skill of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Marsha Linehan, the psychologist that developed DBT, studied under a Zen master and realised the importance of mindfulness in mental wellbeing. Living mindfully is a peaceful, whole-body experience. through mindful living we open ourselves to the beauty and awe that is all around us.
DBT teaches us how to be mindful and what to do to live mindfully.
The "How" to be mindful skills of DBT are:
Non-judgmentally- no judging the experience.
One-mindfully- doing one thing at a time, one day at a time, one step at a time, with purpose and awareness
Effectively- doing what works
The "What" to do to live mindfully in DBT are:
Describe-what you are seeing, feeling, experiencing without judgement, one mindfully and effectively.
Observe-what you are seeing, feeling, experiencing without judgement, one mindfully and effectively.
Participate- in what you are seeing, feeling, experiencing without judgement, one mindfully and effectively.
Some of us are very good at observing, while others are better at participating. Living mindfully would mean that 'observers' should try to participate more, and 'participators' must try to observe more.
Thank you Kung Fu Panda for your wise words!
